About me
I am a dramaturg, theatre director and artistic director based in Dublin and London. I have been concentrating on developing new work for the past three years after concentrating on the classics for over a decade. I have worked with some of the greatest English speaking actors and directors and pride myself in knowing I have extracted many lessons from them over the years. My particular interest at the moment is being an associate director or resident director for shows in and around London. I am also interested in the possibility of contributing to an established theatre company willing to take artistic risks when it comes to scale and technology.Additional skills:
I was a professional actor for 8 years before falling into directing. I am also a strong dramaturg who prides himself on always supporting the playwright. Not one to 'suggest' any ideas, I prefer to investigate the work together with the writer and ask questions that reveal character, plot, structure etc. I am highly ambitious and am an avid reader of plays.
Industry awards:
Having worked for 13 years on the classics and Shakespeare, I was nominated by my peers in 2012 for the new Christopher Plummer Fellowship Award of Excellence. This award honours an emerging or mid-career Canadian theatre artist who has made a unique and exceptional contribution to the study of Shakespeare and/or the classics in performance. The Award is handed out by the Shakespeare Globe Centre of Canada.
Referees:
I have many referees on request.
