About me
Clea Williams is a theatre director. I am a collaborator who brings many skills with me. As an experienced performer I bring empathy to those whom I work with. As a director/movement director/facilitator/dramaturge/educationalist, I have the ability to look at the work I make through different lenses which enables a broad communication of ideas and stories. I am interested in making work from a collaborative process. Sometimes this can be devised; sometimes this can be working with script or from text. I have a range of skills and my method or style is not restricted. I am more interested in using process to determine the best way to tell the story. For me the truth of the storytelling and how it connects to the audience is key. This means working inclusively from the start and working with everyone involved as creators and contributors in their own right to bring the story alive and make it truthful for its intended audience. In addition I want to consider the audience as collaborator, as without the audience my work is not complete. So consideration to how the audience will engage is also vital in the creation process. I encourage a rigorous and collaborative, investigation into stimuli by all collaborators, to start the process of new work and to allow a communal investment into the work. As director I am comfortable taking on a leadership role to help the piece to land effectively. I am also happy alongside the collaborative creative process to deal with the logistics and to work to bring a project in on budget. In this way I see myself as a facilitator who enables the work to live.I am also an educator and so I am passionate about the power theatre has to empower people, to enable them to express their story whether it be to inspire future theatre makers or to build the confidence to participate in their world. I have experience of running workshops and making theatre in a variety of settings working with people of all ages.
