What does a theatre Sound Designer do?

The Sound Designer plans and mixes a soundscape to support the design and performance and therefore enhance a production. They work alongside the Director and Designer to discuss the intended atmosphere of a scene then go away, record sounds for their FX library and then create a mix. On the production day they'll then rig the sound equipment, check the acoustics and do a run-through with cast and crew.
